Alfred Hertel

Alfred Hertel (born March 29, 1935 in Vienna ; † August 5, 2018 in Mödling ) was an Austrian musician , oboist .

biography

Alfred Hertel studied at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna and at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He was then oboist in the Bad Gastein spa orchestra, in the Vienna Chamber Orchestra , 1st oboist in the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper, then in the orchestra of the Vienna Burgtheater.

In the years 1952–1956 and 1959–1998 he was 1st oboist in the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria . Solo and chamber music concerts in Europe, the Far East, North and Latin America. There have been hundreds of radio, record and CD recordings, including TV recordings in which he participated, over the decades.

In 1954 he was an oboist in the Bad Ischl spa orchestra. In 1957 and 1958 he played the first oboe in the orchestra of the Mörbisch Seefestspiele . He started working at the Lilienfeld Summer Academy in 1985 .

Alfred Hertel was a member of ensembles of various genres: "Les Menestrels" Vienna, "The Series", "Niederösterreichisches Bläserquintett", "Convivium Musicum Vindobonense", "Ensemble Concertino Wien", Clemencic Consort and since 1982 member of the "Wind Ensemble of the Lower Austrian Tonkünstlerorchester" , Head: Werner Hackl. He was also an interpreter of the music of the 13th to 20th centuries as a specialist in double reed instruments of the respective epoch. It enabled world premieres of works by contemporary Austrian composers, some of which were dedicated to him.

For around 70 years he was to be found as a soloist, in ensembles and orchestras on concert stages at home and abroad, on four continents. He has promoted contemporary music since the 1950s and has performed works by composers such as Thomas Christian David , Karl Etti , Paul Hertel , Norbert Herzog , Kurt Anton Hueber , Bohuslav Martinů , Manfred Regall , Robert Schollum , Gerhard Stritzl and many others for many years .

He devoted himself to teaching at the Vienna Conservatory (today: Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna ) and at the Franz Schubert Conservatory Vienna.

Hertel was the son of the first horn player of the Vienna Radio Orchestra (today: Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra ) Otto Hertel and an older brother of the composer Paul Hertel . He was married to his wife Annemarie (* 1940) since 1959. The marriage has four children.
