Alfred Jentzsch (born March 29, 1850 in Dresden , † August 1, 1925 in Gießen ) was a German geologist .

Live and act

Jentzsch studied mathematics and natural sciences at the Technical University of his hometown and at the University of Leipzig and participated in the royal Saxon geological survey .

In 1875 Jentzsch became a geologist at the Physical-Economic Society in Königsberg and head of the Provincial Museum , whose director he later became. At the same time he completed his habilitation at the Königsberg University . In 1883 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

From 1881 to 1921 he was at the Prussian Geological State Institute (PGLA). He was the royal geologist there in Königsberg and in 1900 wrote a list of natural monuments in East Prussia .

Jentzsch was a Freemason and from 1882 a member of the Zum Todtenkopf and Phoenix Lodge in Königsberg.
