Career

Lesser, who started for the ASK Vorwärts Brotterode , won the New Year's competition on January 1st, 1963 on the Inselbergschanze in Brotterode . He made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1963/64 . He competed in both competitions in Austria . Surprisingly, he jumped on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck in 12th place. Also in Bischofshofen on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze he finished 25th in a good place among the best 30. However, in the end it was only 68th in the overall ranking because of the two skipped jumps.

In 1964 Lesser set a new hill record with 86.5 m on the Inselbergschanze, which was only broken a year later.

At the GDR championships in 1967 he won bronze together with Dieter Neuendorf , Dieter Bokeloh and Martin Weber in the team competition.
