Alfred Paul Schmidt (born March 31, 1941 as Alfred Schmidt in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer .

Alfred Paul Schmidt grew up with various foster parents in Austrian villages. He broke off an apprenticeship as an agricultural engineer , which he had started after leaving high school in 1957. After attending a middle school for workers , he made up his Matura in 1967 and studied double bass for a short time at the Graz Conservatory . This was followed by studies of sociology and education in Gothenburg and Vienna, which he also did not finish. After doing various odd jobs, he has lived as a freelance writer in Graz since 1975 .

Alfred Paul Schmidt's early narrative works are characterized by the extensive renunciation of conventional, linear storylines and by the excessive use of humorous and parodic means in the description of a chaotic reality. In later works Schmidt approached more traditional storytelling techniques and genres such as the detective novel . In addition to his prose works , he has written numerous radio plays , plays and, since 1986, television scripts , a. a. for episodes of the crime series Tatort , Eurocops , Peter Strohm and Stockinger produced by ORF .
