Alfred Roedig
Alfred Roedig (born October 2, 1910 in Düsseldorf , † July 27, 1983 in Würzburg ) was a German chemist .
He studied botany and zoology , later chemistry , at the universities of Bonn and Freiburg im Breisgau . He did his doctorate in 1939 at the University of Würzburg under Franz Gottwalt Fischer with a biochemical thesis on " Fumaric acid hydrogenating enzymes ".
After brief activities at the Chem.-techn. Reichsanstalt Berlin and Technische Hochschule Stuttgart , he completed his habilitation in 1950 in Würzburg, where he was already working as a scientific assistant at the Chemical Institute (then at Röntgenring 11) in 1948. From 1956 to May 1980 he was the successor of Franz Gottwalt Fischer as the chair of organic chemistry at the University of Würzburg . In 1960, a second chair was established for the planned expansion “Am Hubland”. Siegfried Hünig held the first chair .
His research areas included polyhalogenated unsaturated hydrocarbons and their reactivities, and his results found their way into renowned textbooks on organic chemistry. Shortly after his retirement, he died of cancer.
