player

Schön learned to play football in his hometown at FC Frauenweiler and VfB Wiesloch . In 1978 he moved to SV Waldhof Mannheim and became a regular player in the Waldhof's high-class youth teams at that time. In 1980 he was able to win the German championship with the A-youth, a year later he was junior world champion with the German national team . At the Waldhof he was already used as an amateur in the first team this season and was able to qualify with her for the single-track 2nd Bundesliga . He quickly established himself as a regular player. Together with five teammates from the A youth championship team, he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 1983 , in which Schön scored the first Bundesliga goal in the club's history in the first game against Werder Bremen . In 1984 he was a member of the Olympic team at the Olympic football tournament in Los Angeles with two other Waldhof players .

This was followed by Schön's greatest successes as a club player. In the 1984/85 season , SV Waldhof was sixth in the Bundesliga and only missed participation in the UEFA Cup because of the poorer goal difference . In the following season, the semi-finals were reached in the DFB Cup , in which the team lost to the eventual cup winners FC Bayern Munich . After that, the Waldhof became weaker because strong players had to be surrendered every year due to the financial situation. Alfred Schön also left the club and switched to the Stuttgarter Kickers in 1988 , with whom he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. After SV Waldhof was also relegated, he moved to his old club again for one season. Then Schön played from 1991 to 1993 at AS Nancy in the first and second French leagues before he was active again in the 2nd Bundesliga at FC Carl Zeiss Jena in 1993/94 . Towards the end of his career, Schön played from 1994 to 1998 for TSG Hoffenheim in the state league and in the association league.

Alfred Schön completed 180 games in the Bundesliga, in which he scored nine goals, and 159 second division games with six goals. There are also 30 games and one goal in the first and eleven games in the French second division. Schön came to four appearances with the German Olympic team as well as 14 games and one goal with the junior national team.
