Alfred Schönfeldt

Alfred Schönfeldt (born October 30, 1935 in Riga ) is a German Germanist and university professor of German-Baltic origin.

Life

Schönfeldt was born in Riga and relocated with his family to the Reichsgau Wartheland in Leslau as a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact in 1939 . After fleeing in 1945, the family came to Lübeck , 1946 to Wyk auf Föhr (where he attended the Carl Hunnius boarding school ) and in 1949 to Essen , where he graduated from high school in 1955. He studied German and Latin at the universities in Göttingen , Hamburg and Marburg . He passed his state examination in 1961; In 1962 he did his doctorate with Ludwig Erich Schmitt with a thesis on word geography. It was developed by Walther Mitzka involved in the collections for a Baltic German Dictionary. After his legal clerkship in the school service in Marburg, Schönfeldt took on an assistant position at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , where he was involved in the preparations for the Prussian dictionary . He completed his habilitation in 1974 and in 1983 took over a professorship for German linguistics at Kiel University . He retired in 1999 and now lives in Berlin.
