Sir Alfred Scott-Gatty , KCVO , KStJ , FSA , (born April 26, 1847 in Ecclesfield , Sheffield , South Yorkshire , England , † December 18, 1918 in London ) was a British composer , herald , genealogist and Officer of Arms of the Londoner College of Arms .

Life

Alfred Scott-Gatty was born in 1847 in Ecclesfield, which is part of what is now Sheffield . His parents are Alfred Gatty and Margaret Gatty , b. Scott. Scott-Gatty grew up in Marlborough and attended Christ's College at Cambridge University . In 1892 he took his mother's maiden name, Scott, in addition to his maiden name Gatty. In 1899 he became registrar at Cambridge University, and in 1904 he joined the Garter Principal King of Arms . After that he started composing songs. Among other things, he wrote two operettas and three musicals for children. Scott-Gatty also composed hundreds of songs, many of them to his own text.

In 1904 he was knighted as a Knight Bachelor and in 1911 also accepted as Knight Commander in the Royal Victorian Order .
