Alfred Sotier

Alfred Sotier (born September 21, 1833 in Münnerstadt , Lower Franconia ; † November 19, 1902 in Bad Kissingen , Lower Franconia) was a German doctor.

Sotier attended the gymnasium in Münnerstadt. He completed his medical studies in 1858 with the state examination and opened his first doctor's practice in Aschach in 1859 . But as early as 1865 he settled in Bad Kissingen.

In the German War of 1866 he worked as a civilian doctor, where he also worked with Prof. Johann Nepomuk Nussbaum in Munich . Sotier was awarded the honorary title "Royal Bavarian Well Doctor" by the Bavarian King Ludwig II personally during his visit to Kissingen in 1867 for his military service. In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/1871 Sotier worked as a surgeon (surgical doctor) . He was also a railway doctor for Prussian railway employees.

In 1881 he wrote the book Bad Kissingen, monograph and in 1890 built a health resort in the city ( sanatorium ). He was the consulting doctor of the German Empress Auguste Viktoria (1889) and the Austrian Empress Elisabeth (1897, 1898) during their stay in Bad Kissingen. Also Katharina Schratt , the "secret lover" of Sisi's husband Franz Joseph I was his patient.

Sotier was a medical advisor , councilor and holder of high orders. He is the father of his successor as a health resort doctor, Paul Sotier (1876–1950). The family grave of the Sotiers is in the chapel cemetery of their hometown.
