Alfredo Gomez Jaime

Alfredo Gómez Jaime (born June 2, 1878 in Tunja ; † August 21, 1946 in Villeta ) was a Colombian poet .

Gómez Jaime, son of General Manuel Gómez M. and Amalia Jaime de Gómez, attended the Colegio Rueda , the Colegio Rosario and a military school. He studied medicine at the Universidad Republicana . He interrupted his studies for a trip to Central America, during which he began to work as a journalist. From 1906 he worked in various positions in the Colombian foreign service. From 1906 to 1908 he initially worked as an assistant advisor in Madrid . From 1909 to 1910 he worked as a secretary in Quito, Ecuador . He then worked in Caracas until 1913 . In 1914 he held the office of the Venezuelan consul in Bogotá . From 1918 to 1920 he was Consul of Colombia in Tulcán . After further stations abroad, he became Chilean honorary consul in Vigo, Spain , in 1930 .

Since his youth he has composed poems and hymns such as Oh Columbia and Himno del Arbol , set to music by Daniel Zamudio . In 1917 his main work Cantos de Gloria was published in Bogotá , a patriotic homage to his native Colombia. For Himno de Tunja , for whom Francisco Cristancho Camargo wrote the music, he was honored as eximio poeta on the occasion of the four hundredth anniversary of his native city .

Gómez Jaime was married to Adelina Venegas and had a son named Alfredo.
