Ali Smith CBE (born August 24, 1962 in Inverness ) is a Scottish writer who lives in England.

Life

Smith grew up in Inverness and currently lives in Cambridge . Smith studied in Aberdeen and then in Cambridge. After completing her studies at Strathclyde University , she was employed as a lecturer . Smith developed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome . Due to illness, she had to give up her profession as a literature lecturer and began working on her first collection of short stories, Free Love and Other Stories .

Most of her works are in the Penguin - Imprint appeared Hamish Hamilton. In Germany her books are published by Luchterhand Literaturverlag .

Several of her poems were set to music as part of the "Ballads of the Book" project.

Smith has lived with her partner Sarah Wood for over 17 years and dedicates all of their books to her.
