Aliases is a metal band from Manchester , Great Britain , which mixes progressive metal with elements of mathcore . The band was formed after Graham Pinney's former band SikTh broke up.

The band chose the name Aliases (enS for "aliases"), as this describes the many musical facets of the band that are hidden behind the band name.

history

Two years after Graham Pinney's former band SikTh broke up, he decided to found the band Aliases in 2010 with guitarist Leah Woodward, also from Manchester, with whom he had previously contacted via the Internet . Looking for other band members, who should come from the surrounding area, the two found bassist Joe Heaton and drummer Darren Pugh, who had previously played in the Manchester band Veils . In July 2010, the band released their first song We Never Should Have Met , with which Paris- based Jay Berast was introduced as the band's new singer.

In October of the same year, the band had their first gig outside the UK at the sixth edition of the year in Cologne held Euro Blast Festival , where the band next to other bands of the genre such as monument , Chimp Spanner and Vildhjarta occurred. The day before the band's van had failed, so that the band members from Manchester had to get into the small car of guitarist Leah Woodward with all the equipment in order to get to Germany on time. Singer Jay Berast traveled separately. A month later, the band announced that they had signed a record deal with the British label Basick Records , whose founder Nathan Phillips had also attended the Euroblast Festival.

In spring 2011 the band was on their first tour with Chimp Spanner and Cyclamen , which led across England . On August 15th, the first EP, Safer Than Reality, was released via Basick Records, which included We Never Should Have Met, four more songs and two interludes . Shortly thereafter, there was an attack by strangers on the bassist Joe Heaton, who had to undergo surgery after a stay of several days in the hospital, otherwise he would be blind. In the fall, Aliases toured the UK with the band Visions and then with Textures and The Ocean .

In March 2012 the band took part alongside Uneven Structure , TesseracT and many other bands at the UK Tech-Metal Fest , which takes place annually in London . After another tour of the UK with Deadly Circus Fire , the band announced in August 2012 that they had split up with singer Jay Berast at his own request, as he wanted to do other things that an active participation in the band had no longer made possible. After almost two months of searching, the band found a new singer in Leigh Dale, but the band separated from him in January 2013 because Dale could not meet the expectations placed on him. Because of this, the former band member Jay Berast helped out as a singer at a concert with the band Devil Sold His Soul .

In April 2013, the band released their first single Exasperated , which they released for free download. At the same time as the release, the band introduced the new singer Joe Rosser, with whom they want to record the band's upcoming debut album , which is due to be released later this year.

The studio album Derangeable was released in April 2016. It is the first album with the new singer Joe Rosser.

style

The band tunes their guitars to a guitar tuning that is untypical for the music style . In doing so, it relies on an open-C tuning that occurs mainly in the blues , in which the low E string is tuned two tones lower to a C, the A and D strings are tuned down by one tone each to G and C. the B-string is tuned up to a C.
