Alice Cibois (* 1973 ) is a French ornithologist who works as a research assistant in the Department of Birds and Mammals at the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de la Ville de Genève .

Life

In 2000 received his doctorate Cibois with the dissertation phylogeny et biogeography of Timaliidae (Aves, Passeriformes) under the direction of Christian Érard the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris for Ph.D. She then did research as a postdoctoral fellow in the ornithological department of the American Museum of Natural History until 2002 . Cibois specializes in the systematics and phylogenesis of passerine birds using molecular biological methods. Her work focuses on Asian and African bird families, including Timalia (Timaliidae),Bulbüls (Pycnonotidae), flycatchers (Muscicapidae) and thrushes (Turdidae). Further cornerstones of her research are the phylogenesis, biogeography and the evolution of the avifauna of French Polynesia, as well as studies of moths in the Galapagos Islands . Cibois has written numerous articles on phylogenesis by means of DNA analysis , the evolution and the biogeography of passerines , which have been published in the journals Emu , Ibis , Pacific Science , Zootaxa , Notornis , Zoologica Scripta , in the Bulletin of the British Ornithologists's Club , Molecular phylogenetics and Evolution , The Condor , The Auk , Journal of Ornithology , Journal of Avian Biology, and Zoosystema . In 2003 she wrote the book chapter Avian higher-level phylogenetics and the Howard & Moore Checklist of Birds in the third edition of Edward C. Dickinson's work The Howard & Moore Complete Checklist of the Birds of the World . In 2004, together with Joel Cracraft and several other colleagues , she wrote the article Phylogenetic relationships among modern birds (Neornithes): Toward an avian tree of life for the book Assembling the Tree of Life by Joel Cracraft, Michael J. Donoghue. Between 2006 and 2012, Cibois published several articles on the reed warbler in French Polynesia and other parts of the Pacific, including the extinct taxa Acrocephalus astrolabii and Acrocephalus longirostris . In 2010 she introduced the new family Bernieridae , for a group of Malagasy passerine birds that were previously assigned to warblers , bulbuls and timalas.
