Alina Wessel (born November 25, 1990 in Cologne ) is a German tennis player .

Career

Wessel started playing tennis at the age of ten. From 2005 she took part in ITF tournaments and celebrated successes in national competitions. She played for the Cologne THC Stadium Rot-Weiß , with which she was promoted to the regional league in 2010. After graduating from high school in 2009, she decided to become a professional tennis player. The decision was made easier by the long-term commitment of a sponsor.

In 2011 Wessel was able to win an ITF tournament for the first time after two finals in doubles. In Annaba she won the singles and doubles competition. At the beginning of 2012, with three other ITF double titles, she was among the top 500 players in the world rankings for the first time . In 2012 she played in the 2nd Tennis Bundesliga Women North for the Lintorf Tennis Club . For the 2013 summer season, she moved to RTHC Bayer Leverkusen . In 2013 she won three more ITF tournaments in doubles. Due to a long-term injury, she took a break from October 2013 and returned to the ITF Women's Circuit in November 2014 . In 2015 she was able to celebrate her tournament victories number nine and ten in doubles in Turkey.

Wessel played her last full professional season so far in 2016. In 2018 she competed again in the qualification in Versmold , but already lost in the first round against Anna Klasen with 2: 6 and 2: 6. In April 2019 she competed with Annika Rittberger in Antalya at an ITF in doubles, but there the two did not get past the second round.

Since September 2017 Alina Wessel is no longer in the world rankings.

Alina Wessel trains at Robert Orlik's tennis academy and has a B coach license. Since summer 2015 she has been back in the 2nd Bundesliga for RTHC Bayer Leverkusen.
