All of My Love ( English for all my love ) is an English-language pop song from the team Borislav Milanow written and Destiny Chukunyere was interpreted. With the title she should represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam .

Background and production

On February 8, 2020, Chukunyere won the talent show X Factor Malta 2020 , which gave her the right to represent her country in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. She has already won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 for Malta and in 2019 she was background singer for Michela Pace and the ESC title Chameleon .

An early version of the title was already being considered as a possible competitive title for Poli Genova in 2016 . According to Genova, she was also involved in the composition herself. After choosing If Love Was a Crime , All of My Love was brought to Bernarda Brunović in autumn 2019, who worked out a new version together with Borislaw Milanow. This was submitted for Dora 2020 with Brunović as the singer, but was rejected by Croatian television. After Destiny Chukunyere won X Factor Malta, the song was sent to the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services , where it was eventually accepted.

Sebastian Arman, Dag Lundberg, Joacim Persson and Cesár Sampson were also involved in the composition. The mixing was done by Patrick Kummenecker.

Music and lyrics

Brunović describes the title as “positive and upbeat”. He is "easily catchy in the verses and in the chorus with its very special moments of surprise". The gospel and soul influences came from herself. The lyrics are about the love that the singer gets from her counterpart, doing her good and giving it back to him. Love is described in the refrain as a metaphor through a fast flowing river . The song consists of two stanzas, which are alternated by a chorus with post and pre-chorus. At the end, after the bridge, the chorus is sung without the pre-chorus.

At the Eurovision Song Contest

Malta should have performed this song in the first semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. However, due to the advancing COVID-19 pandemic , the competition was canceled.

reception

MaltaToday sees All of My Love as the usual mush, but still a usable pop anthem with a rousing chorus.

Eurovisionary saw the title as a possible winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, but noted at the same time that All of My Love lacks possible depth. The ESCXtra blog is of the opinion that the interpreter of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the adult edition succeeded. The title possesses all the important characteristics to be one of the top contributions of the year. The German-language blog ESC Kompakt describes the song as "upscale Milanov home cooking" and rated it mostly good. It was critically noted that the song mainly builds on the voice of the interpreter and her previous performance at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

publication

Although the official music video was released on March 9, 2020, the single was released as a digital download and music stream only at the end of April, making it by far the last of the Grand Prix contributions of 2020. The video was partly in a reservation of the organization BirdLife Malta shot. The director was Steven Levi Vella and the cameraman was Matthew Muscat Drago.
