Allan Lindsay Briggs (born February 14, 1873 in Bridgeport , † November 12, 1951 in Vineyard Haven ) was an American marksman .

successes

Allan Briggs participated in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm in four disciplines. In the three-position battle with the army rifle, he did not get beyond the 25th place. In the competition with the army rifle over 600 m in any position, however, he narrowly missed the podium as fourth. He finished the individual competition with the free rifle in the three-position fight in 35th place. He finally secured a gold medal in the team competition with the army rifle. The US team, which in addition to Briggs also included Harry Adams , John Jackson , Cornelius Burdette , Carl Osburn and Warren Sprout , finished the competition with 1687 points ahead of the British and Swedish teams and thus became Olympic champions . Briggs was the team's second best shooter with 283 points.

Briggs was a captain in the US Army at the time of the Olympic Games .
