Allen Park is a city in Wayne County in the US state of Michigan . According to the 2000 census , there were 29,376 residents in the city. The Detroit suburb was named America's Best Small Cities list in Money Magazine . Allen Park is part of a collection of communities known as the downriver .

Ford Motor Company is an integral part of the community. Many of the company's offices and facilities are within the city limits. Allen Park has been the home of the Detroit Lions since 2002 and is also the location of the club's headquarters.

Allen Park was registered as a village in 1927 and a city in 1957. The town is named after Lewis Allen, a wealthy lawyer and forest owner who owned 112 acres, mostly in Ecorse Township, and operations in what is now Allen Park and Melvindale . Hubert Champaign and Edward Pepper were two other early residents of the area.
