Allen Mulherin Steele, Jr. (born January 19, 1958 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American journalist and science fiction author.

life and career

At meetings at the Nashville Science Fiction Club, he learned about science fiction fandom . He attended the Webb School in Bell Buckle , Tennessee. He holds a BA in Communication Studies from New England College, Hangman, New Hampshire and an MA in Journalism from the University of Missouri , Columbia, Missouri .

Steele worked as a journalist for several years before making a name for himself as a science fiction writer. In 1988 he started publishing short stories. His first novels from Orbital Decay to Labyrinth of Night form a postulated story of the future. Some of these early novels, like Orbital Decay and Lunar Descent, deal with blue-collar workers working on future construction projects in space. Since 1992 he has concentrated more on independent projects and short stories, but he also wrote five novels about the moon Coyote .

Steele serves on both the Space Frontier Foundation's advisory boards and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America's advisory boards . On the board of directors of SFWA he was chairman of the eastern region. In April 2001 he was heard by the US House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics on Space Exploration in the 21st Century.

In 2004, he contributed a chapter to the collective Trash - Fantasy -novel Atlanta Nights at.
