The Alliance is a research and measurement ship of the Center for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE). The ship is the larger of the two ships of the CMRE. When it was put into service, it was considered the quietest motor-driven surface ship in the world.

history

The Alliance was built under construction number 921 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano near La Spezia . The keel was laid on June 18, 1984. The ship was put into service in 1988. It belongs to the NATO research institute Center for Maritime Research and Experimentation. By the end of 2015 the ship led the German federal institutions flag and was one of the Scottish Glasgow based businesses bereedert . Accordingly, the ship's command was of German citizenship and the other officers and crew were predominantly British and Italian. Since January 1, 2016, the Alliance (A 5345) has been operated by the Italian Navy together with the smaller Leonardo (A 5301) . The ship is still based at the La Spezia naval base .

description

The crew of the ship consists of about 24 people. A further 24 people can be embarked for research and testing tasks. The ship can stay at sea for up to 26 days.

The ship is powered by diesel-electric technology . Two twelve-cylinder diesel engines , each with an output of 1,890  kW, are available as the main drive and a gas turbine with an output of 1,430 kW as an auxiliary drive. The operating equipment is soundproofed and stored in such a way that it emits as few noise as possible to the water. The Alliance has 370 m² of laboratory and workshop space and a work deck of 400 m², which is equipped with four different cranes and can accommodate up to six 20 ' containers . Several winches allow water and soil samples to be taken. The Alliance can tow equipment with a pulling force of 20 t. In addition, three rigid inflatable boats are available as tenders.

Trivia
