Alma Hämmerle

Alma Hämmerle (born Dominik ; born April 7, 1924 in East Prussia ; † December 2, 2016 in Tübingen ) was a German local politician of the CDU and founder of the Tübingen District Seniors' Council.

Live and act

Alma Hämmerle volunteered in social and elderly work. In 1972 she founded the Board of Trustees for Open Work with the Elderly, today's District Councilor of Tübingen. The district seniors' council is still the umbrella organization for old people's clubs in the Tübingen district and thus the central representation of the interests of senior citizens. From 1972 to 2003, Alma Hämmerle was the chairwoman of the district seniors council, under whose roof five regional working groups with the seniors council Tübingen and four district seniors councils are combined. For many years Alma Hämmerle represented the interests of all district seniors 'councils in the Tübingen administrative district as a member of the regional seniors' council.

Alma Hämmerle expanded the district senior council as a self-help facility from the elderly for the elderly and as a contact point for elderly people seeking advice and help. She organized training and information events for around 100 old people's clubs in the district, gave tips on setting up telephone chains, organized senior citizens' days and helped to publish a guide for the elderly with advice on outpatient assistance, living in old age, old people's clubs and meeting places and other things.

In 1975 Alma Hämmerle was elected to the Tübingen municipal council for the first time. From 1985 to 1994 she was honorary deputy to the mayor and from 1973 to 1999 a member of the district council .

Due to her extraordinary commitment to open work with the elderly, the Federal President Alma Hämmerle awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 1988 . In 2004 she was honored with the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .

In its meeting on April 7, 2008, the Tübingen municipal council decided to give Alma Hämmerle honorary citizenship due to her great achievements and her merits in the field of open work for the elderly in Tübingen.

Alma Hämmerle's son Frank Hämmerle (* 1952) is also a member of the CDU and was district administrator in the district of Constance from 1997 to April 2019 .
