Aloe argyrostachys is a species of the genus Aloes in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet argyrostachys is derived from the Greek words argyro for 'silver' and stachys for 'ear' and refers to the silvery sight of the flowers.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe argyrostachys grows trunk-forming and individually. The upright, bald trunk reaches a length of up to 50 centimeters. The up to 30 arching, linear-lanceolate, stiff leaves are arranged in two rows. The bluish green leaf blade is up to 36 inches long and 5 inches wide. Its tip is rounded. The piercing, white, brown-tipped teeth on the leaf margin are 1 to 2 millimeters long and about 10 millimeters apart. The leaf juice is clear. It dries clear to very light green.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of 60 to 70 centimeters. The dense, cylindrical grapes are about 10 centimeters long. The egg-shaped, whitish bracts have a length of 12 to 20 millimeters. The cylindrical, white flowers are up to 1 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are 30 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of about 5 millimeters. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 17 millimeters. Their tips are bent back. The stamens and the style stick out about 5 millimeters from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe argyrostachys is common in the central highlands of Madagascar on weakly acidic soil.
