Aloe commixta is a species of the genus Aloes in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet commixta comes from Latin and means 'mixed up'.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe commixta grows trunk-forming, branching and forms dense shrubs. The almost upright to upright trunks are about 100 centimeters long and 2 to 2.5 centimeters wide. The lanceolate, pointed leaves are scattered about 30 centimeters along the trunk. The cloudy green leaf blade is up to 20 inches long and 3 inches wide. The firm, white teeth on the leaf margin are 1 to 2 millimeters long and 2 to 4 millimeters apart. The leaf sheaths are finely striped.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of 30 to 35 centimeters. The dense, almost capped grapes are 5 to 7 inches long. The ovoid-deltoid bracts are pointed. The yellowish to orange flowers are on approximately 6 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are up to 40 millimeters long and narrowed briefly at their base. Above the ovary they are not narrowed. Your outer tepals are 20 millimeters long, and thus almost to their base, not fused together.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe commixta is widespread in the South African province of Western Cape between rocks and low bushes at altitudes of 1500 meters.

The first description by Alwin Berger was published in 1908.

Synonyms are Aloe perfoliata var. Α L. (1753), Aloe gracilis Baker (1880, nom. Illeg. ICBN -Article 53.1) and Aloiampelos commixta (A.Berger) Klopper & Gideon F.Sm. (2013).
