Systematics and distribution

Aloe laeta is common in Madagascar .

The first description by Alwin Berger was published in 1908. A distinction is made between the following varieties :

  • Aloe laeta var. Laeta
  • Aloe laeta var. Maniaensis H.Perrier

Aloe laeta var. Laeta
The variety iswidespreadin Madagascar on the Ibity Mountain at altitudes of 1500 to 2200 meters.

Aloe laeta var. Maniaensis
The differences to Aloe laeta var. Laeta are: The leaves of the variety are 8 centimeters long and 2 centimeters wide. Their flowers are straight and funnel-shaped.

The first description of this variety by Henri Perrier de La Bâthie was published in 1926. Aloe laeta var. Maniaensis is distributed in Madagascar in the province of Fianarantsoa between the rivers Mania and Ivato on quartzite rocks at altitudes of about 1400 meters. The variety is only known from the locality of the type.
