Aloe rauhii is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla plants (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet rauhii honors the German botanist Werner Rauh .

description

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe rauhii grows stemless or very short stem-forming, branched and then forms dense groups. The up to 20 lanceolate-deltoid leaves form dense rosettes . The gray-green, occasionally tinged brownish leaf blade is 7 to 10 centimeters long and 1.5 to 2 centimeters wide. There are numerous scattered, H-shaped spots on it. The tip of the leaf is pointed. The white teeth on the cartilaginous, white margin of the leaf are about 0.5 millimeters long and 1 to 2 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple or rarely once branched inflorescence reaches a length of 30 centimeters. The loose, cylindrical and slightly tapered grapes are about 7 centimeters long and 4 centimeters wide. They consist of twelve to 18 flowers. The ovate-pointed, narrowed, white bracts have a length of 4 to 5 millimeters and are 2 millimeters wide. The pink-scarlet flowers are lighter at their mouth. They stand on 10 millimeter long flower stalks . The flowers are 25 millimeters long and briefly narrowed at their base. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 5 millimeters. They are slightly narrowed above this and then widened towards the mouth. Your tepals are not fused together. The stamens and the style protrude up to 1 millimeter from the flower.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 14.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Aloe rauhii is widespread in Madagascar on sandstone rocks in dense bush at heights of about 600 meters. The species is only known from the vicinity of the type site.

The first description by Gilbert Westacott Reynolds was published in 1963. A nomenclature synonym is Guillauminia rauhii (Reynolds) PVHeath (1994).

Aloe rauhii is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species .
