Aloe werneri is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla plants (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet werneri honors the German botanist Werner Rauh , who discovered the species in 1991.

description

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe werneri grows without a stem or rarely with a very short stem, is solitary or forms small clumps. The 20 to 30 leaves are spread out and upright. The bright green leaf blade is 40 to 50 inches long and 3 to 3.5 inches wide. When exposed to direct sunlight, it is covered in red. The white teeth on the leaf edge are 1 to 2 millimeters long and 5 to 10 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence is simple or sometimes has a branch and reaches a length of up to 70 centimeters. The dense grapes are 7 to 10 centimeters long. The fleshy, egg-shaped bracts have a length of 5 to 10 millimeters and are 4 to 6 millimeters wide. The cylindrical, slightly curved, yellow flowers are up to 0.5 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are 16 to 20 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers are 7 millimeters in diameter. They are then narrowed towards the mouth. Your outer tepals are almost not fused together. The stamens and the pen stand out 3 to 5 millimeters from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe werneri is widespread on granite deposits in Madagascar in the province of Toliara .
