Alois Ammerschläger (* 1913 in Aschaffenburg ; † December 22, 1995 in Bad Homburg ) was a German entrepreneur and patron .

Life

The Aschaffenburg doctor's son founded a clothing store on the Zeil in Frankfurt am Main in 1948 , from which the Ammerschläger KG fashion house emerged . He was committed to the reconstruction of the Alte Oper and was a sponsor of Frankfurt sports . In 1988 he founded the Alois Ammerschläger Foundation , which, according to its statutes, deals with the promotion of cultural purposes and support. In 1990 he was honored with the Great Federal Cross of Merit. In 1992 he was awarded the plaque of honor by the city of Frankfurt am Main for his social commitment . He died a few days after being entered in the Frankfurt Donors' Book of Honor and was buried in the Frankfurt Main Cemetery.

His widow, Carola Ammerschläger, only found out about the company's poor situation after his death. On January 31, 2002, his business had to be closed due to over-indebtedness . The building, which is now owned by R + V Versicherung , was reopened at the end of 2005 as a Zara branch .
