Alois Ebner

Alois Ebner (born January 19, 1948 in Augsburg ) is a German psychologist , neurologist and epileptologist .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1968, Ebner studied psychology from 1970 to 1976 (with a diploma) and from 1972 to 1978 human medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He completed his doctorate in 1979 under Detlev Ploog with a thesis on the registration of acoustic evoked brain stem potentials in comatose patients at the MPI for Psychiatry in Munich. He began his specialist training in 1978 as a scholarship holder / assistant doctor at the MPI for Psychiatry in Munich, in 1980 he moved to the neurological clinic of the Technical University of Munich ( Albrecht Struppler ) and in 1982 to the neurological clinic of the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg ( Carl Hermann Lücking ). From 1988 to 1990 Ebner worked as a senior physician at the neurological clinic of the Ammerlandklinik in Westerstede ( Uwe Besinger ).

In 1990, Ebner moved to the Mara Clinic of the Bethel Epilepsy Center through the mediation of his college friend Hans Holthausen and Hans O. Lüders . This was combined with a two-year training until 1992 in the Section of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, USA (Hans O. Lüders). In 1992 he received the certificate from the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology .

At the Bethel Epilepsy Center, he initially headed the preoperative epilepsy diagnostics department together with Soheyl Noachtar , Hans Holthausen and Ingrid Tuxhorn . After they moved to other places of activity, he was the sole head doctor from the late 1990s until 2006. After Bernd Pohlmann-Eden moved to Canada, he was head of the Mara Clinic from 2007 until his retirement in 2013.

Ebner has published numerous papers in the field of clinical neurophysiology and epileptology , in particular on preoperative epilepsy diagnostics and the outcome after epilepsy surgery (146 publications listed in Medline and numerous book chapters).

Ebner was a member of the technical commission of the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology (DGKN), member of the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology , co-editor of the journal Klinische Neurophysiologie , member of the training commission of the DGKN, secretary of the working group for presurgical diagnostics and operative epilepsy therapy and from 2001 until 2005 together with Jürgen Bauer editor of the journal for epileptology of the German Society for Epileptology .
