Alois Kreiten

Alois Kreiten (born February 16, 1856 in Oedt ; † March 3, 1930 in Cologne ) was an important Cologne goldsmith and enamelur .

life and work

Kreiten was the son of the shoemaker Valentin Kreiten (1825–1868) from Oedt and Anna Margaretha, b. Busch (1828-99). Kreiten had had its own workshop in Cologne since 1888 and was a royal Romanian court goldsmith. The workshop was located at Komödienstraße 47. He was guild master in Cologne. In 1885 he married Cäcilie Bauer (1856–1930) from Düsseldorf. His successor in the workshop was his son Paul Kreiten (1890–1970). Paul Kreiten's work shows influences from the Art Déco style and the Dessau Bauhaus .

Kreiten was the great uncle of the pianist Karlrobert Kreiten (1916–1943), who was executed by the Nazis .

Works can be found in churches and museums in the Rhineland; he left numerous works of predominantly excellent quality:
