Alois Kutschera

Alois Kutschera (born December 5, 1859 or May 23, 1859 in Pest , † October 22, 1919 in Vienna ) was an Austrian composer of Viennese songs and lyricist.

Life

Alois Kutschera was born on December 5, 1859 in Budapest in the Pest district. He lived and worked in Vienna and wrote marches , couplets and songs, but above all Viennese songs.

He wrote mostly melodies and texts himself for his numerous works, some of which were distributed throughout the German-speaking area. Many of them are very sentimental and sentimental. Probably his most successful song was the Rührstück Weißt Du, Muatterl, wos i tramt hob, written in 1898 , which is still part of the repertoire of Wienerlied interpreters up to Peter Alexander . Due to its popularity, its melody has also been used for numerous parodies and re-poetry.

In his couplets, which are usually rather cheerful in contrast to the songs, he makes himself z. B. about "foolish soubrette", but also "to emancipated" women like the scholar or the Vielbereiste ago. In these texts he shows himself to be a child of his time. His songs sing about beautiful places ( Schönau, my paradise ) and beautiful women ( you are too beautiful to be faithful ), but also “The good old days of knights” . He dedicated one march to the Budapest innkeepers in memory of his hometown, and another to a childhood friend.

His songs were heard early on on sound carriers, on Edison cylinders and on wax cylinders from the years 1902/1912: You are too beautiful to be faithful (Kutschera) sung by Johannes Bischoff. German Columbia Phonograph Co. cylinder record (# 57050), recorded 1902. Although this black wax cylinder was damaged, it took many hours to restore it. Kutschera's melody Schönau, mein Paradies ... was recorded in Germany in 1912 with the Johann Strauss Orchestra and choral singing on Edison Gold Molded cylinder record # 16236 (2 min. Cast gold cylinder ) and the first records were recorded and brought to the public . His best disseminators, however, were the Heurigen musicians - among the most popular songs that Vienna's Heurigen musicians liked to play include Mein Elend or Verlorenes Glück , Waan net Muatterl, waan net (text by Richard von Ranna), The unforgettable eyes as well as don't forget the poor girl and out of control - and her "nature singers". Singers whose voice is uneducated, ie. H. has not gone through any training; they were already popular at the time of the Schrammel brothers. His compositions were published by Rózsavölgyi & Co. in Budapest and Leipzig, and later by Doblinger, Josef Blaha and Otto Maas in Vienna.

Kutschera died in Vienna on October 22, 1919.
