history

Share over RM 1000 in the Kreditbank Gladbach AG from September 1941

On June 16, 1922, the bank was registered as Kreisbank Gladbach AG in the commercial register at the Mönchengladbach District Court. From 1941 to 1985 the bank was called Kreditbank Gladbach AG, before the current name Gladbacher Bank Aktiengesellschaft was introduced in 1922. Although the names changed, the location on Bismarckstrasse was always retained. That was already the case in 1915, when the forerunner of the district bank, the Kreissparkasse, moved into a new building in the center of the city.

In the 1920s, Gladbacher Bank AG successfully held its own against the country's economic difficulties that followed the First World War : payment difficulties, business closures and bankruptcies . In the first year of its existence, the bank made a net profit of 173,483.82 trillion marks - this figure shows the extent of inflation in the 1920s.

During the Second World War , the bank building on Bismarckstrasse was badly damaged. In 1945 the bank employees had to move three times before the city of Mönchengladbach made a building on Kaiserplatz available to the bank. In 1948 the currency conversion brought about the turning point. A new branch was set up in what was then Viehof on Schlachthofstrasse. In 1961 a branch followed in Mönchengladbach-Waldhausen , a year later in Rheydt and 1968 in Viersen . The bank building on Bismarckstrasse was demolished in 1964 when the road was expanded to make way for a new building. Two years later, the bank's head office moved into its new domicile at the old location, on the corner of Bismarckstrasse and Steinmetzstrasse, where it is still located today (2014).

After the merger with Volksbank Rheydt in 2003, the branch network extends within the urban area from Mönchengladbach to Rheydt, Giesenkirchen and beyond to Korschenbroich .
