Aloysius Balina

Aloysius Balina (born June 21, 1945 in Isoso , Tanganyika ; † November 6, 2012 in Mwanza , Tanzania ) was a Tanzanian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Shinyanga .

Life

Aloysius Balina received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Shinyanga on June 27, 1971 . He served as a priest from 1971 to 1975 in Buhangija, Shinyanga , Salawe, Bugisi, Chamgasa and Malili. From 1975 to 1983 he was rector of St. Pius Seminary in Makoko in Tanzania and from 1983/84 pastor of the city of Shinyanga.

On November 8, 1984, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Geita . John Paul II donated him episcopal ordination on January 6, 1985 ; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Eduardo Martínez Somalo , Official in the Vatican State Secretariat , and Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . The Aloysius Balina School in Geita was named after him.

On August 8, 1997, John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Shinyanga. He was also the administrator of Geita until 2000.

He was the founder and the first chairman of the Christian Social Services Commission (CSSC) . Until his death he was chairman of the TEC Health Department (since 1985), chairman of the Bugando Medical Center (since 1985), chairman of the Bugando College of Health Science (since 2000), commissioner for TACAIDS (2002/04) and chairman of the advisory board and Development Limited (CdCO) (since 2005).
