  1. ↑ Calculated from apparent brightness and distance.

α Antliae ( Alpha Antliae , short α Ant ) is the brightest star in the constellation Air Pump . Nevertheless, it is a relatively faint object of the fourth magnitude . The distance of this orange giant star of spectral class K4 from Earth is about 324 light years . It is believed that its apparent magnitude fluctuates with a small amplitude between 4.22 mag and 4.29 mag. Its surface temperature is about 4000 Kelvin, its mass probably about 2.2 solar masses and its luminosity about 480 to 555 times that of the sun. The approximately one billion year old star is likely to have already burned its hydrogen supply to carbon via helium and is in the process of becoming brighter and developing into a variable Mira star, only to end up as a white dwarf later .
