Alphonse U Than Aung

Alphonse U Than Aung (born August 1, 1933 in Chanthaywa , † November 2, 2004 ) was Archbishop of Mandalay .

Life

Alphonse U Than Aung was ordained a priest on January 18, 1959 .

Paul VI appointed him on April 28, 1975 auxiliary bishop in Mandalay and titular bishop of Horrea . The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in the People's Republic of China and Bangladesh , Edward Idris Cassidy , ordained him bishop on October 19 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Aloysius Moses U Ba Khim , Archbishop of Mandalay, and Gabriel Thohey Mahn-Gaby , Archbishop of Rangoon .

John Paul I appointed him Archbishop of Mandalay on September 25, 1978. He resigned from his office on April 3, 2002. On April 3, 2002, John Paul II appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of Chusira .
