Alqueva is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portel district in the Alentejo region , Portugal . The village is located in the heart of the Alentejo, between Évora and Beja , about 19 km from Portel.

The municipality is located on the Alqueva reservoir ( Barragem de Alqueva ), one of the largest reservoirs in Europe in terms of volume . In addition, Alqueva has the largest ostrich farm in Portugal.
