Elisabeth Alschner (born November 19, 1929 in Kaiserswalde ; † March 16, 1997 in Speyer ) was a German worker, trade unionist and local politician.

Life

Elisabeth Alschner was born in the Silesian Kaiserswalde (today Lasówka in Powiat Kłodzki ) as the daughter of a textile worker. At the end of the Second World War, the family was interned and evicted . After that she lived in the Fulda area and began training as a craftsperson . She broke off this after the birth of her son in 1954 and then worked as a stepper in the textile industry .

In 1957 she moved to Speyer with her parents and her son and worked there as a stepper in the Rovo shoe factory . In the same year she became a member of the leather industry union , where she stood up for the concerns of the employees. In the union she was elected to the women's committee of the main board in Stuttgart, among other functions. In 1967 Rovo was taken over by Salamander and Elisabeth Alschner was elected to the works council. Here she was particularly committed to unskilled young workers so that they could attend vocational school just like those doing training. In 1962 she became a member of the SPD . In the party, she got involved in employee issues. An important concern for her was the social security of women. As chairman of the working group of social democratic women, board member of the working group for employee issues in the sub-district Speyer, board member of the local association Speyer-Süd and board member of the Palatinate SPD, she was involved in many party committees.

In 1975, when Salamander closed the Speyer site, she became unemployed. From 1976 she was employed as a laborer at Klambt-Druck , where she was elected to the works council as a member of the IG Druck und Papier . In 1988 she was elected to the main committee of IG Druck und Papier (from 1989 IG Medien ) in Stuttgart. She was particularly committed to the rights of women whom she saw disadvantaged in working life. Protection against dismissal and individual pension rights for women were important concerns for her . In 1989 she retired at the age of 60.

She used her newfound free time for a variety of voluntary activities. Since 1988 she has headed the “Social Policy” working group in the SPD sub-district of Speyer. In 1994 she was in the city council elected by Speyer, where she was a member until her death.

In addition, she collected testimonies to the history of the labor movement and the workers' sports clubs . She handed over the collected material to the Landesarchiv Speyer . In 1990 she was the main organizer of the exhibition “Working and Living in Speyer - 140 Years”.
