Stary Olsztyn (German Alt Allenstein ) is a village in the Purda municipality in the Olsztyn district in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . The village is about eleven kilometers west of Purda and eight kilometers south of Olsztyn. Stary Olsztyn had 178 inhabitants in 2014.

The Prussian village became part of the Kingdom of Poland after the Second Peace of Thorn in 1466 and belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia from 1772 to 1918 and to Germany until 1945.

Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Alt Allenstein belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 on whether they would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus to Germany) or join Poland. In Old Allenstein, 40 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, while Poland did not vote.
