geography

Fords on the ICE railway line shortly before the confluence with the Allerkanal at Winkel

The previous course of the Hehlenriede was interrupted when the Gifhorn bypass was built and the stream was relocated east of the road embankment to the Allerkanal. The old stream west of the B4 begins at the confluence of a field stream coming from the south, which begins at the settlement east of Ribbesbüttel . The Alte Hehlenriede includes further field streams flowing in from the left as well as the Rötgesbütteler Riede and the Vollbütteler Riede . In contrast to the flowing waters, the course of the stream is morphologically more natural and mainly winds through a forest area south of the Allerkanal. From the right a branch flows to the Hehlenriede, which feeds several ponds.

Shortly before it flows into the Allerkanal, the brook bends north and is crossed by the ICE railway line Hanover – Berlin, on the north side of which a farm road is led through a ford . At the confluence, a wooden bridge crosses the stream.
