Forrest and Reid had just finished high school in Kingston, Jamaica when they were discovered by producer Joe Gibson and songwriter Errol Thompson. After seven weeks in the charts, Uptown Top Ranking rose to number 1 on the British charts for one week on February 4, 1978 . The song describes the sexual ventures of a non-urban man in Kingston. As musicians, drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robert Shakespeare were involved in the recording. The song remained the only hit of the two singers, making them a one-hit wonder .
