Altun , also known as Altun Shan , Altyntag , Altin tagh or Astin tagh ( Chinese  阿爾 金山  /  阿尔 金山 , Pinyin Ā'ěrjīn Shān ), is a high mountain range up to 6295  m in the west of the People's Republic of China ( Asia ).

The Altun Mountains, which are about 700 km long and 200 km wide as the western main part of the Nanshan Mountains, are located in the southeast and east of the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang and extend into the provinces of Qinghai and Gansu . The central part of the Kunlun Mountains extends south of the Altun and the Tarim Basin and the Taklamakan desert to the west and north . To the east is the Qilian Shan Mountains , the main eastern part of the Nanshan .

Most of the Altun mountains are between 3500 and 4000  m high. The highest mountain is Sulamutag in the west of the mountains with a height of 6295  m . The mountain Altun Shan is located in the autonomous district of Subei of the Mongols in the administrative area of ​​the city of Jiuquan , Gansu province , and is at 5798  m the highest mountain in the eastern part of the Altun; its summit was climbed on August 19, 1989 by a team of four Japanese and Chinese.
