history
The company was founded in Fleurier in 1897 by Heinrich Alfred Gautschi from Menziken under the name Gautschi & Jequier . The company's headquarters were relocated to Gontenschwil in 1903 and to Menziken in 1908. From 1946 to 1993 the company was called Aluminum AG Menziken . In 1995, the Alu Menziken Group, which had meanwhile been organized into a group through various acquisitions, among other things, divided its activities into the three sectors of semi-finished products, castings and aircraft material.
In 1998 the sand casting team in Gontenschwil succeeded in casting the heaviest aluminum casting in the world with a weight of 7.3 tons. The performance finds entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
After a strategic realignment, Alu Menziken began to gradually sell business areas that were no longer part of the core business at the end of 2002. Initially, Almatec AG, which specializes in the manufacture of housing systems, was sold. In 2004, Alu Menziken withdrew from the die casting business and sold its subsidiary Injecta Druckguss AG, which had 250 employees, to a group of private investors. In 2005, the subsidiary Alu Menziken Metall Service Menziken AG, which specializes in metal service, was sold to Debrunner Koenig Holding .
At the beginning of July 2007, the owner family Gautschi announced the sale of the Alu Menziken Group to the newly established industrial group Montana Tech Components . In the course of the integration, the former subsidiary Universal Alloy Corp. (UAC) separated from the Alu Menziken Group. The two companies, which continue to operate independently on the market, now form the Aerospace & Industrial Components business unit of Montana Tech Components, which, with a global market share of 40 percent, is the market leader for light and medium-sized and global number two for heavy aluminum profiles for the aerospace industry.
