history

The roots of the group go back to 1755, when the Hochreutiner'sche Eisenhandlung was founded in St. Gallen . The business was run by the Hochreutiner family for four generations.

In 1862, after the direct succession was broken, Theodor Scherrer took over management. He was followed in 1885 by Jean Debrunner. Under his leadership, the company expanded and was renamed Debrunner & Cie in 1911 . The war and post-war years brought an abrupt end to the booming economy due to industrialization.

In 1930 the previous limited partnership became a stock corporation . This went on to the next generation with Henri Debrunner and Max Scherrer, the sons of the two previous company managers. The steel and hardware trade , which was slowly recovering after years of crisis , suffered another setback with the outbreak of the Second World War .

With the post-war years and the strong economic upswing that followed, Debrunner grew into a nationwide group of companies for over four decades. In 1988 the Debrunner Group and the Koenig Group merged. The previous Debrunner AG was continued as an operative group subsidiary. This acquired the Acifer Group in 1996, from which Debrunner Acifer AG emerged, and subsequently other regionally active companies.

At the end of 2005, the company took over the Metal Service business unit from Alu Menziken Holding . This was incorporated into the Debrunner Koenig Group as an independent Metals division and now operates as Metall Service Menziken AG .

In 2008, the subsidiary Koenig Anschlussstechnik AG , which specializes in fastening, fastening and locking technology, was spun off from Debrunner Koenig Holding as part of a management buyout and sold to the Swiss private equity company Capvis .

At the end of 2015, Koenig Feinstahl AG discontinued its activities for the metalworking industry such as value-adding cutting, storage and distribution services.
