The aluminum metaphosphate ( molecular formula Al (PO 3 ) 3 ) is a chemical compound , which in the solid state of aggregation in the form of tetragonal or monoclinic present crystals. Tetragonal Al (PO 3 ) 3 contains tetrameric anions (PO 3 ) 4 4− . The monoclinic form contains infinite chains of corner-linked tetrahedra.

properties

It is insoluble in bases and acids as well as in water. Its density differs from that of the ortho type and is 2.78 g · cm −3 .

synthesis

The metaphosphate can be prepared from aluminum hydroxide with orthophosphoric acid at around 300 ° C.

use

Aluminum metaphosphate is a component of glazes , enamels , glasses , temperature-resistant insulating compounds and molecular sieves .
