Alvvays are a Canadian indie rock band from Toronto .
history
The band members Molly Rankin , Kerri MacLellan and Alec O'Hanley started making music together in high school. Rankin, daughter of John Morris Rankin ( The Rankin Family ), released a solo EP called She in 2010 , before eventually forming Alvvays with MacLellan, O'Hanley and new band members Brian Murphy and Phil MacIsaac.
After the band had already accompanied The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Peter Bjorn and John on concert tours, Alvvays' debut album of the same name was released on Polyvinyl Records in 2014 . The Rolling Stone described the work as an "indie pop wonder".
style
Musically, Alvvays' indie rock is reminiscent of bands like Camera Obscura or Best Coast . Zeit Online characterized the sound as "dreamy singing with surf guitars" and fuzzpop .
