Am Bruch is a locality in the north of the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal .

Location and description

The location is in the south of the Uellendahl-West residential area in the Uellendahl-Katernberg district at an altitude of 211  m above sea level. NHN on today's Albert-Schweitzer-Straße . The name Am Bruch is mostly no longer in the minds of the population as an independent name for this location, the original residential area has been incorporated into the residential and commercial buildings along Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse and Uellendahler Strasse .

Neighboring locations, farms and residential areas are Uellendahl , Am Gebrannten , Röttgen , Auf der Nüll , Am Brucher Häuschen , Weinberg , Mangen , Am Haken and Kempers Häuschen .

Etymology and history

Break is a common name for a wetland area. The name is probably due to the location in the Mirker Bach floodplain.

Am Bruch is recorded on the Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715 as aufm Brug . In the 19th century, Am Bruch belonged to the Uellendahler Rotte of the Lord Mayor's Office of Elberfeld . The place is on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 as a.Bruch. and marked as Wolf on the Prussian first recording from 1843 .

Eight inhabitants are counted in 1815/16. According to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district in 1832 , the place, which was categorized as an arable property and a craftsman's apartment, was called aufm Bruch. referred to and owned at that time three residential houses and two agricultural buildings. At that time there were 43 people living in the village, all of them Protestant faith.
