history

In 1774, the owner of the Niedersohland estate , Friedrich Franz Xaver zu Solms-Sonnenwalde , had construction sites assigned on the slopes along the Oberwiese am Rosenbach. The new settlement that emerged in the corridors of the Lower Sohland manor was officially called Äußerstniedersohland . With the subsequent Äußerstmittelohland it was summarized as Äußerstsohland , the vernacular called the two districts as Hintererecke or Am Hubbrch . Friedrich Franz Xaver zu Solms-Sonnenwalde had a new castle built over the confluence of the Rosenbach in the Spree in 1793, which was to replace Metzradt's court as the mansion. However, it burned down in 1794 as a result of a lightning strike before its completion and remained in ruins.

From the middle of the 19th century, Äußerstniedersohland formed a district of the community of Niedersohland, the place was parish after Mittelohland. Since the merger of Niedersohland with Wendischsohland, Obersohland and Mittelohland to form the municipality of Sohland an der Spree in 1877, Äußerstniedersohland was part of the same.

In 1872 the Oberoderwitz – Wilthen railway line was laid out, and the five-sided courtyard with the castle ruins was demolished. In 1880, the Groß Schönau button manufacturer Carl Robert Stein (1852–1932) set up a button factory on the railway as a branch. After the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Stein concentrated its button production in Äußerstniedersohland and expanded the factory, while the former factory in Groß Schönau was used as a distribution center for Czechoslovakia . In 1925 Stein introduced the brand name Adler-Knopf-Fabrik Carl Stein, at that time he employed 200 factory workers and 700 home workers in Sohland. In 1938, Äußerstniedersohland was given the new name Am Hohberg and merged with Hinterm Hohberg (previously Äußerstniedersohland ) to form a district of Hohberg .

The Adler Button Factory was expropriated and nationalized in 1949. During the GDR era it operated as VEB Formaplast Sohland; In 1972 the former Zittau glass jewelry shop was added as a part of the business. Since the privatization, the plant has been part of the Jokey Group as Jokey Plastik Sohland GmbH.

On August 7, 2010, the Rosenbach swelled to a flood of the century after heavy rain. On January 1, 2011, Hohberg was deleted as an official part of the municipality of Sohland an der Spree.
