description
The spring mountain is a volcanic elevation that arose from a basalt breakthrough through a clod of Rosenhainer granite, a light variety of granodiorite. The mountain, which is only wooded on the upper slope, consists of two peaks, of which the west is the higher.
The hilltop, which is surrounded by agricultural land, is not open to tourists. From the edge of the forest, it offers a view of the Spree valley and the Sohland reservoir as well as the second and third mountain ranges of the Lausitz mountainous region.
history
At the beginning of the 19th century the western crest was called "Bolzberg" and the eastern one was called "Richterberg". The current name, which emerged in the course of the 19th century, occurs several times in the Lausitzer Oberland and describes slopes exposed to the south that are exposed to snow early in spring.
From 1966 a lamprophyre tunnel was dismantled on the spring mountain .
nature
The spring mountain is made up of mixed coniferous forest. In 1934 the easternmost population of the forest gamander with several thousand specimens was discovered here. In addition, the seven-star grows on the spring mountain .
