history
In 1753, the owner of the Niedersohland manor, Friedrich Eberhard zu Solms-Sonnenwaldes heirs, left a construction site on the border of the manor to Taubenheim to Gabriel Hölzel. The first house was number 189, and it remained the only one for a long time. In 1774 Friedrich Franz Xaver zu Solms-Sonnewalde left further parcels of land to settlers on Wendisch- and Niedersohland. The new settlement was not given a name until 1788; Count Friedrich Franz Xaver named it after his hunter Carl. At the beginning of the 19th century, Carlsruhe consisted of seven houses. The remote settlement was only slightly expanded in the 19th century, when the core area of the Upper and Middle Southland was densely populated. In 1872 the Oberoderwitz – Wilthen railway was laid, which cut through Carlsruhe in the north. Carlsruhe formed a part of the community of Niedersohland, the settlement in Mittelohland was parish. Since the merger of Niedersohland with Mittelohland, Obersohland and Wendischsohland to form the municipality of Sohland an der Spree in 1877, Carlsruhe was part of the same.
At the end of the 20th century, the place name was changed to Karlsruhe. On January 1, 2011, Karlsruhe was deleted as an official part of the municipality of Sohland an der Spree.
