The Rosenbach , also Rosenhainer Bach , on the upper reaches Königswalder Bach , on the middle reaches Koschelbach , (Czech Rožanský potok ) is a left-hand tributary of the upper Spree in Sohland an der Spree in the Saxon district of Bautzen with a length of approx. 12 kilometers. It drains the central part of the Schluckenauer Zipfel .

description

The Königswalder Bach ( Rožanský potok ) rises southwest of Neugeorgswalde ( Nový Jiříkov ) on the Harthe ( Harta ). The stream initially flows north-west on its upper course and is dammed in a small pond at the Harthe forest house. Then the stream turns sharply north and takes on a small tributary on the right side. Its further course leads through a wide valley between the Jüttelsberg ( Jitrovník , 509  m ) and the Wolfsberg ( Vlčice , 512  m ) through Königswalde ( Království ), where it is called Koschelbach from the mouth of the Aubach , and then to Schluckenau ( Šluknov ) past to the northwest. The brook feeds the Šluknovský rybník pond near Schluckenau shooting town.

The brook then breaks through the third ridge of the Lusatian mountains east of the Jockelsberg ( Rožanský vrch , ( 412  m )) and flows northwards for four kilometers through the elongated village of Rosenhain ( Rožany ). From the confluence of the Mühlbach, it is called Rosenbach in German usage there . Below the Grenzmühlteich the Rosenbach flows at the western foot of the Hornsberg ( 402  m ) into Saxon territory. Its lower course leads east past the Hohberg ( 368  m ) through the Hinterm Hohberg and Am Hohberg localities belonging to Sohland on the Spree . Shortly before its mouth, the creek is bridged by the Oberoderwitz – Wilthen railway line. The Rosenbach flows into the Spree between Neusorge and Niedersohland .

The creek runs for a length of approx. 10 kilometers through Czech and two kilometers through German territory.

Tributaries

The most important tributaries of the Rosenbach are the Schluckenauer Bach and the forest water, which drain the northern slopes of the fourth and southernmost mountain range of the Lusatian highlands. Down the stream flow into the Rosenbach:

  • Aubach ( Lužní potok ), on the right below Königswalde ( Království )
  • Forest water ( Lesní potok ), on the left between Königswalde and Schluckenau
  • Schluckenau brook ( Stříbrný potok ), on the left at Schluckenau
  • Teichbach ( Rybniční potok ), on the left above Rosenhain ( Rožany )
  • Mühlbach ( Mlýnský potok ), on the right by the travel-free shop in Rosenhain
  • Schebichbach ( Dřevíč ), on the left in Rosenhain
  • Kunzenbach, on the left in Rosenhain
  • nameless brook from Rosensee, on the left in Äußerst mittensohland

use

The hydropower of the Rosenbach was previously used to drive numerous mills. There were six mills in Rosenhain alone, and the Buschmühle in Äußerstemittelohland in Saxony .

The Rosenbach used to be a trout river, but by the end of the 19th century it was so heavily polluted by sewage from the Schluckenau factories that there were almost no fish left.

Flood

During heavy rain, the Rosenbach burst its banks several times. The flood of the century on August 7, 2010, triggered by prolonged heavy rain, caused the brook to swell so much that its level exceeded the previous values of a century of flood by 1.5 m. In Hinterm Hohberg , the premises of E. Hantusch GmbH Natursteinveredelung were flooded, causing damage of around € 200,000 to technical systems, buildings and storage areas. The masses of water in Am Hohberg shot through the premises of Jokey Plastik Sohland GmbH.
