Summary

The “Am Kölnberg” high-rise estate has a bad reputation. In addition to refugee families and immigrants from all over the world, people live here who, for a variety of reasons, have ended up on the edge of society. Unemployment, drug abuse and prostitution are part of everyday life for many. The film accompanies four people over a period of two years and documents their life on the Kölnberg with ups and downs. They all have one thing in common: the dream of a fulfilled life, far away from the Kölnberg.

criticism

The German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) writes: “The documentary AM KÖLNBERG is a deeply human and authentic milieu study. An impressive film that shows more than a settlement on the outskirts of Cologne. But also a social class in the middle of Germany. Straightforwardly good and honest. "

Ralf Schenk writes in the film service : "So it's good that there are quiet, calm and yet intense documentaries like 'Am Kölnberg' that make a reality that has been almost completely hidden by the media transparent."

In the House of Documentary it is said: “The essentials of filmmaking cannot be learned; it is the way we look at the world. It's the way; how we look at people; what space we give them; it is the rhythm that we find beyond modernism and yet in time. There is something special in us. We were unanimously of the opinion that these two young filmmakers should receive the Young Talent Award. We want to see more of their films. "

According to Filmplus, the "great merit of the editor lies above all in bringing the hardships of everyday life into a flow of detailed observations without getting caught in a voyeuristic level of observation."
