Amalia Ferraris

Amalia Ferraris (* 1830 in Voghera ( Lombardy ), † April 1, 1904 in Vienna ) was an Italian dancer.

Amalia Ferraris made her debut at Scala in Milan in 1844 at the age of 14 . After a few years, Ferraris accepted an engagement at the Teatro San Carlo and went to Naples for a few years .

After several engagements at various theaters in London (1853), Rome (1854) and Vienna (1855), Ferraris came to the Paris Opera in the spring of 1856 . Numerous ballets were composed especially for them there. Ferraris thus became one of Carolina Rosati's major competitors .

Iberia was one of her greatest successes . In this role, the sculptor Pietro Gavazzi created a statue of Ferraris in Rome in 1854.

One of her last triumphs was The Star of Messina on the occasion of her guest performance in Brussels in 1864. A few smaller roles followed and soon afterwards she retired from the stage.

The dancer and ballerina Amalia Ferraris died on April 1, 1904 in Vienna at the age of about 74.
